Ashgabat, January 14, 2026 – The Europe Today: The Coast Guard Services of Turkmenistan successfully rescued the crew of an Iranian dry cargo vessel after receiving a distress signal from the ship in the Caspian Sea on January 14, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the Press Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the Iranian dry cargo ship Rona transmitted an SOS signal while in distress in the Caspian Sea. In response, Turkmenistan’s relevant government agencies responsible for emergency response and prevention promptly undertook all necessary measures to rescue those on board, in full compliance with international maritime regulations.
Owing to the timely and coordinated response, all 14 individuals aboard the vessel were safely rescued. Preliminary information indicates that the rescued crew members are citizens of Iran and India.
The Turkmen authorities are currently carrying out all relevant procedures in accordance with established international rules and standards.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s commitment to international maritime safety and humanitarian cooperation in the Caspian Sea region.
