Man Shot Dead by Police in Gunnedah After Threatening Officers with Bow and Arrow

Gunnedah, January 16, 2026 – The Europe Today: A man armed with a bow and arrow was shot dead by police northwest of Sydney on Friday afternoon, authorities confirmed.

New South Wales Police said they were called at around 1:40 p.m. local time to the town of Gunnedah, over 300 kilometres from Sydney, to conduct a welfare check. Officers initially engaged with the man outside a residence, but he later returned armed with a bow and arrow and aimed at officers, who took cover in their vehicle.

The man was shot by police and treated by paramedics at the scene, but was later pronounced dead.

NSW Police stated that the state crime command’s homicide squad will lead the investigation, which will also undergo review by police integrity bodies.
