Davos, January 22, 2026 – The Europe Today: Pakistan on Thursday signed the charter of the Board of Peace as part of its ongoing efforts to support the implementation of the Gaza Peace Plan, on the sidelines of the 56th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif signed the charter alongside several world leaders, including representatives from Qatar, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Argentina, Kosovo, Paraguay, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Bulgaria, among others.
President of the United States Donald Trump was the first to sign the charter and later witnessed the signing ceremony. Pakistan had received an invitation from President Trump to join the Board of Peace, which was subsequently accepted.
Pakistan was among eight Muslim-majority countries that announced their decision to become part of the body on Wednesday. The group includes the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, the Republic of Indonesia, the Republic of Türkiye, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the State of Qatar. It was announced that member states would complete the joining process in line with their respective legal and procedural requirements, with Egypt, Pakistan and the UAE already having formally announced their participation.
Pakistan has expressed the hope that the establishment of this framework will lead to concrete steps towards a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, the scaling up of humanitarian assistance for the Palestinian people, and the reconstruction of the war-torn territory.
In an earlier statement, the Foreign Office said Pakistan also hoped that these efforts would contribute to the realization of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination through a credible, time-bound political process in accordance with international legitimacy and relevant United Nations resolutions. This, it said, should culminate in the establishment of an independent, sovereign and contiguous State of Palestine, based on pre-1967 borders with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
Addressing the ceremony, President Trump said that “everybody” wants to be part of the Board of Peace. He added that his administration would continue to work with various partners, including the United Nations.
“Once this board is completely formed, we can do pretty much whatever we want to do. And we’ll do it in conjunction with the United Nations,” President Trump said, noting that the UN has significant potential that has not been fully utilized.
He further remarked that the combination of the Board of Peace and the individuals involved could prove to be “something very, very unique for the world.” President Trump also reiterated that his administration had helped stop eight wars within a ten-month period, specifically citing the prevention of a conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbours, Pakistan and India.
