Ashgabat, January 23, 2026 – The Europe Today: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), under a project aimed at combating infectious diseases, has delivered modern medical waste disposal units to the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan, with a total value of 1.01 million euros, UNDP said on Thursday.
According to the statement, seven Bertin Sterilwave 100 units for solid medical waste and two Medister 160 units for liquid waste have been installed at central and regional institutions, as well as at centers for the prevention of infectious diseases across the country.
The newly supplied equipment is designed to treat infected and potentially hazardous medical waste directly at healthcare facilities. Under the system, waste is processed on-site and converted into safe material that can be disposed of as regular refuse, significantly reducing health and environmental risks.
UNDP noted that similar medical waste disposal units had previously been provided to the Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance Service and the Blood Center in Ashgabat, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Turkmenistan’s healthcare infrastructure and infection control capacity.
