Manchester, January 24, 2026 – The Europe Today: A man was taken to hospital and six men were arrested following a shooting in Manchester city centre early Saturday, police said.
Officers from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were called to an address on Richmond Street at around 5:00 a.m. after reports of a disturbance, according to media reports.
Upon arrival, officers found a man with a leg injury “consistent with a gunshot wound,” GMP said. The victim was taken to hospital for treatment, though his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Police also recovered a firearm from an address on Richmond Street as part of the operation.
Six men, aged between 23 and 26, have been arrested on suspicion of affray and firearms offences. They remain in police custody while investigations continue.
Superintendent Stephen Wiggins said the incident would be concerning for residents and workers in the city centre and across Greater Manchester.
“I would like to reassure the community that we believe this is a targeted incident, and there is no wider threat to the general public,” he said.
Police have appealed for witnesses or anyone with information related to the incident to come forward as inquiries remain ongoing.
