Brussels, January 30, 2026 – The Europe Today: The European Commission announced on Thursday that it has allocated €153 million ($183 million) in emergency assistance to Ukraine and Moldova to address urgent humanitarian needs amid the ongoing conflict.
The Commission stated that an initial €145 million ($173 million) will be directed to Ukraine to provide protection, shelter, food, cash assistance, psychosocial support, and access to water and healthcare services. Another €8 million ($9.5 million) will support Moldova in hosting Ukrainian refugees who have fled the war with Russia.
“After more than a decade of hostilities and almost four years of full-scale war, the people of Ukraine continue to endure immense suffering,” the Commission said, emphasizing the critical humanitarian situation.
The announcement also highlighted the impact of Russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, leaving millions exposed to freezing temperatures. This week, 447 power generators worth €3.7 million ($4.4 million) have been delivered to restore electricity to hospitals, shelters, and other essential services. An additional 500 generators are being deployed from rescEU strategic reserves to ensure continued operation of vital facilities.
The European Commission underscored that these measures are part of the EU’s ongoing commitment to support Ukraine and its neighbors during this unprecedented crisis.
