Dickson City, February 5, 2026 — The Europe Today: Emergency crews battled a fire late Wednesday night at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Dickson City, evacuating all patients, staff, and visitors as flames spread through part of the facility, officials said.
A hospital spokesperson confirmed that everyone was safely evacuated. Emergency responders remained on the scene into the early hours of Thursday as efforts to control the blaze continued.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro praised first responders on the social media platform X, stating that the state police, emergency management agency, and health department were actively involved in addressing the incident.
“Thank you to every first responder running toward danger to help their fellow Pennsylvanians,” Shapiro wrote. “Lori and I are praying for the staff, patients, their families, and the entire community tonight.”
Online videos and photos showed flames emanating from the top of the hospital’s Orthopedic Institute. The cause of the fire has not been immediately determined. Dickson City is located approximately six miles (10 kilometers) north of Scranton.
U.S. Representative Rob Bresnahan Jr., whose congressional district includes Dickson City, also expressed gratitude on X, commending first responders and hospital personnel for their rapid and professional actions that ensured the safety of everyone in the facility.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire and monitor the situation as recovery efforts proceed.
