Washington D.C., February 7, 2026 – The Europe Today: The United States Department of Defense has announced the termination of all military training programs, scholarships, and professional military education at Harvard University, marking a significant escalation in tensions between the federal government and the prestigious academic institution.
According to Pete Hegseth, the decision applies to all Pentagon-affiliated educational initiatives at Harvard. In a video statement shared on social media platform X, Hegseth accused segments of the university’s faculty of harboring hostility toward the US military and promoting what he described as left-wing or “woke” ideology.
“Too many faculty members openly detest our military. They paint our armed forces in a bad light and silence anyone who questions their left-wing political views,” Hegseth said.
The move comes amid an ongoing and increasingly public confrontation between the administration of Donald Trump and Harvard University. Only days earlier, the president accused the university of being “anti-Semitic” and stated that his administration was seeking $1 billion in damages from the institution.
The White House has repeatedly criticized Harvard, alleging ideological bias and accusing it of promoting views at odds with the administration’s priorities. From the outset, the dispute has centered on presidential demands for greater state oversight of the university, including its admissions policies, hiring practices, and perceived political orientation.
The Pentagon’s decision is being viewed as one of the most concrete actions taken so far in the broader conflict, raising questions about the future of cooperation between the US military and one of the country’s most influential centers of higher education.
