Turkmenistan Records Growth in Freight and Passenger Transport, Cabinet Meeting Hears

Ashgabat, February 8, 2026 – The Europe Today: Freight transport by road, rail, air, sea and river in Turkmenistan reached 101.4 percent, while passenger transport increased by 103.4 percent, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Mammethan Chakyyev reported at a regular government meeting on Friday.

According to official Turkmen media, growth in completed work and services across the country’s transport and communications complex totaled 113.3 percent during the reporting period.

In January 2026, services provided by the Ministry of Railway Transport rose by 106.7 percent, while the Ministry of Automobile Transport recorded an increase of 120.9 percent. Services of the State Service Turkmenhowayollary grew by 119.8 percent, and the State Service of Maritime and River Transport reported growth of 102.6 percent. Services under the Ministry of Communications increased by 113 percent.

Addressing the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov stressed the importance of continuing the systematic strengthening and modernization of the national transport system’s material and technical base.

The president instructed the deputy prime minister to place particular emphasis on increasing passenger and freight volumes, expanding transit and international cargo traffic, and improving the quality of communications services provided to the public.

The meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan reviewed the results of work carried out across the country in January, highlighting transport and communications as key contributors to overall economic performance.
