Nusantara, February 15, 2026 – The Europe Today: The Indonesian government has confirmed the readiness of medical services and public facilities in Nusantara (IKN), the country’s future capital currently under development across two districts in East Kalimantan Province.
Director of Basic Services at the IKN Authority (OIKN), Suwito, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the availability and accessibility of essential services, particularly in the Government Core Area (KIPP).
“We have prepared health services and social protection for civil servants and residents in IKN,” Suwito said on Sunday at the capital development site in North Penajam Paser District.
He announced that 16 ministries and state agencies are scheduled to gradually begin operations in Nusantara in 2026, marking a significant step toward the city’s transition into Indonesia’s administrative center.
Suwito noted that four hospitals have been established in the KIPP, three of which are already operational: the Health Ministry’s Central General Hospital, Nusantara Mayapada Hospital, and Nusantara Hermina Hospital.
“Hospital capacity in the new capital reaches two to three beds per 1,000 residents, exceeding the national standard of at least one bed per 1,000 residents,” he said.
Medical services covered by state health insurer BPJS Kesehatan are currently available at Hermina and Mayapada hospitals. In addition, healthcare coverage for work-related accidents, illnesses, and injuries has been made accessible throughout the KIPP.
The OIKN has also undertaken environmental health measures to foster a safe and comfortable living environment, including introducing fish into retention ponds to naturally control mosquito larvae and organizing public health education campaigns.
Indonesia’s decision to relocate its capital from Jakarta was initiated under former President Joko Widodo, who argued that the move was necessary to promote more balanced national development beyond the long-standing Java-centric model.
Current President Prabowo Subianto has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to continuing Nusantara’s development, aiming to designate it as the political capital by 2028. He underscored this pledge during his first presidential visit to the site in January 2025.
To meet that target, the government has launched the second phase of development, focusing on key infrastructure and facilities for judicial and legislative institutions, with completion scheduled through 2027.
