Damascus, February 15, 2026 – The Europe Today: The Syrian army has taken control of the Shaddadi military base in northeastern Syria following coordination with the United States, according to the Syrian state news agency on Sunday, media reports said.
The development marks a significant shift in the security landscape of the region and comes in the wake of the US withdrawal from the strategically important al-Tanf base.
According to official sources, the handover of the Shaddadi base was carried out after coordination between Syrian authorities and the United States, reflecting ongoing diplomatic and security arrangements aimed at stabilizing parts of the country.
The move follows a Washington-brokered agreement to integrate the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) into Syria’s central state institutions. The deal is viewed as part of broader efforts to streamline military structures and consolidate governance under Damascus after years of conflict.
The US pullout from al-Tanf, long considered a key strategic outpost near Syria’s borders with Iraq and Jordan, had already signaled a recalibration of Washington’s military posture in the country.
No immediate details were provided regarding the operational status of the Shaddadi base or the timeline for the full implementation of the integration agreement.
The latest developments underscore evolving dynamics in northeastern Syria as stakeholders seek political and security arrangements to address longstanding tensions in the region.
