Ashgabat, February 17, 2026 – The Europe Today: The European Union and Turkmenistan have outlined key priorities for cooperation in 2026, officials announced Tuesday during a press briefing in Ashgabat.
According to participants, the agenda for the coming year will focus on climate change adaptation and environmental protection, energy efficiency, cybersecurity, transport infrastructure development, investment promotion, and enhanced support for the private sector.
Both sides reaffirmed their readiness to deepen engagement across political, economic, cultural, and humanitarian spheres, underscoring a shared commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.
EU representatives highlighted the role of member states in advancing joint initiatives under the “Team Europe” approach, which brings together national partners, businesses, and international financial institutions to coordinate development assistance and investment efforts.
A series of high-level events is scheduled for 2026. In March, Ashgabat will host an interparliamentary dialogue between the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and the European Parliament. The next round of the EU–Turkmenistan Human Rights Dialogue is also planned, alongside a Turkmenistan–EU Business Forum set for March 26.
Relations between the EU and Turkmenistan are currently governed by an Interim Trade Agreement covering trade-related matters, which entered into force in August 2010 pending ratification of a broader Partnership and Cooperation Agreement by the European Parliament.
Officials expressed optimism that the 2026 agenda would further consolidate cooperation and expand mutually beneficial partnerships between Turkmenistan and the European Union.
