Qatar Pledges $1 Billion to Support Board of Peace at Inaugural Washington Meeting

Washington, February 20, 2026 – The Europe Today: Qatar has pledged $1 billion in support of the Board of Peace during its first official meeting in Washington, reaffirming its commitment to mediation efforts aimed at resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said Doha remains firmly committed to the initiative, emphasizing that Qatar has supported mediation efforts since the outset.

“Qatar reaffirms its commitment to the Board of Peace as it was committed from the very first day of the mediation efforts,” Al Thani said, according to media reports. “Our responsibility remains to achieve a just and lasting resolution.”

He noted that the board, operating under the leadership of Donald Trump, seeks to advance the full implementation of a 20-point peace plan designed to ensure fairness and justice for both Palestinians and Israelis.

“In this spirit, Qatar pledges $1 billion in support of the board’s mission aimed at reaching a final resolution that fulfills Palestinian aspirations for statehood and recognition and Israeli aspirations for security and integration,” he added.

Al Thani further stated that Qatar would continue humanitarian coordination efforts in Gaza alongside United Nations partners and the Board of Peace.

The Board of Peace was established as part of broader efforts to secure a peaceful settlement in the Gaza Strip and promote conflict resolution globally. Washington officials have indicated that additional countries have joined the initiative since its launch.

A U.S.-backed ceasefire agreement has been in effect in Gaza since October 10, bringing a halt to nearly two years of hostilities. According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, more than 72,000 people — mostly women and children — have been killed and over 171,000 injured since October 2023.

Despite the ceasefire, reports indicate that Israeli forces have committed multiple violations through shelling and gunfire, resulting in the deaths of 611 Palestinians and injuries to 1,630 others, according to local health authorities.

Diplomatic efforts are continuing as international stakeholders seek to stabilize the fragile truce and move toward a comprehensive and lasting peace agreement.
