Four Moscow Airports Impose Flight Restrictions Amid Drone Attack

Moscow

Moscow, February 22, 2026 – The Europe Today: Four major airports in Moscow temporarily restricted flight operations on Sunday for security reasons following a reported drone attack on the Russian capital, according to the country’s aviation regulator Rosaviatsia.

In a statement, Rosaviatsia said the restrictions were introduced to ensure the safety of civil aviation amid heightened security concerns. Flight departures and arrivals were affected at several airports serving the capital, though authorities did not immediately provide details on the duration of the measures.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that at least seven drones were intercepted and shot down while heading toward the city. He noted that emergency services were deployed to the areas where debris from the downed drones was reported.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage. Authorities said investigations were underway and security measures had been reinforced across the capital.

The incident marks the latest in a series of drone-related security alerts targeting Moscow, prompting officials to heighten surveillance and aviation safety protocols.
