Islamabad, February 22, 2026 – The Europe Today: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Bangladesh’s newly appointed Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rehman held a telephone conversation on Sunday, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.
According to a statement issued by Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dar congratulated his Bangladeshi counterpart on his recent appointment. The two leaders underscored their shared vision of promoting peace, stability and prosperity in the region, while agreeing to enhance collaboration in diverse fields and multilateral forums.
The renewed diplomatic engagement comes amid improving ties between the two countries following the ouster of the Awami League government. In August 2025, Pakistan and Bangladesh signed several agreements aimed at boosting cooperation in trade, diplomacy, media, education and cultural exchanges — a significant step toward resetting relations after years of strained engagement.
During the conversation, both ministers agreed to build a forward-looking partnership focused on mutual benefit and people-to-people connectivity.
The development also follows a major political shift in Bangladesh, where the centre-right Bangladesh Nationalist Party secured a landslide parliamentary victory last week, nearly 18 months after mass protests led to the removal of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, the country’s longest-serving premier.
Diplomatic observers view the renewed engagement as a positive sign for regional cooperation and stability in South Asia.
