US-Led Coalition Begins Withdrawal from Key Military Base in Northeastern Syria

Hasakah, February 22, 2026 – The Europe Today: United States-led coalition has commenced its withdrawal from the Kasrak military base in northeastern Syria, marking a significant development in the coalition’s military posture in the region.

According to media reports, convoys transporting personnel and military equipment have departed the facility and are heading toward neighboring Iraq. The Kasrak base, situated near the city of Hasakah — the administrative center of the predominantly Kurdish province of Hasakah — has been regarded as one of the largest and most strategically important installations operated by the Western coalition in Syria.

The withdrawal from Kasrak follows a series of earlier redeployments by coalition forces. Previously, US and allied troops vacated the Harab al-Jir air base as well as a training camp located in the southern city of Ash-Shaddadi.

In addition, on February 12, coalition forces completed their withdrawal from the At-Tanf base, positioned at the tri-border junction of Syria, Iraq, and Jordan. The At-Tanf facility has long been considered strategically significant due to its oversight of the vital Damascus–Baghdad highway.

The phased withdrawals indicate a broader shift in the coalition’s operational footprint within Syria, though no official statement has yet detailed the long-term strategy behind the redeployments.
