Israeli Strike on Girls’ School in Minab Leaves Dozens Dead and Injured

Strike

Tehran, February 28, 2026 – The Europe Today: An Israeli airstrike on a girls’ school in the city of Minab, located in Iran’s southern Hormozgan Province, has resulted in significant casualties, according to Iranian officials and state media reports.

Minab’s provincial governor, Mohammad Radmehr, confirmed to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) on Saturday that the Shajareye Tayabeh school had been directly targeted. He stated that dozens of students were killed and many others injured in the attack.

Initial reports indicated that at least 57 students were killed and 60 others wounded. However, subsequent updates from Iran’s Fars News Agency reported varying casualty figures, with the number of fatalities later cited as 24, while other reports mentioned five students killed in the elementary school strike. Authorities said that rescue teams were continuing operations at the site, with at least 53 students reportedly trapped under the rubble at one stage of the emergency response.

Governor Radmehr said that emergency and aid operations were ongoing and that the overall security situation in Minab remained under control.

The reported strike comes amid heightened tensions in the region. Iranian media stated that the United States and Israel launched what Tehran described as a joint act of aggression against Iran early Saturday. In response, the Iranian Armed Forces reportedly carried out retaliatory strikes, targeting Israeli-controlled territories and U.S. military bases in the region with ballistic missiles and drones.

There has been no immediate comment from Israeli or U.S. officials regarding the reported school strike. Independent verification of casualty figures was not immediately available.

Further updates are expected as rescue efforts continue and authorities release confirmed information.
