London, March 2, 2026 – The Europe Today: British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced that the United Kingdom will permit the United States to use British military bases for what he described as “specific and limited defensive purposes” during Washington’s ongoing military operation involving Iran.
In a video statement posted on X, Starmer said the US had formally requested permission to access British bases strictly for defensive measures.
“We have decided to accept this request to prevent Iran from firing missiles across the region, killing innocent civilians, putting British citizens at risk, and striking countries that have not been involved,” Starmer stated.
The decision represents a policy shift, as the UK had previously declined to allow the US to use British bases during Washington’s initial strikes on Iran.
However, the Prime Minister stressed that Britain would not take part in any offensive military operations. He underscored that the UK’s involvement would remain limited to defensive support aimed at protecting lives and maintaining regional stability.
The development comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, with Western allies closely coordinating their security responses while seeking to prevent further escalation.
