Hanoi, March 7, 2026 – The Europe Today: Việtnam has reaffirmed its strong commitment to cooperation with the global Francophone community during talks between Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung and Secretary-General of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF) Louise Mushikiwabo in Hànội on Friday.
During the meeting, Politburo member and Minister of Foreign Affairs Lê Hoài Trung emphasized that Việtnam places great importance on strengthening ties with the Francophone community and values the role and contributions of the OIF in promoting international cooperation.
He noted with satisfaction that collaboration between Việtnam and the OIF continues to expand and deepen across various sectors. As an active and responsible member of the Francophone community, Việtnam will continue contributing to collective efforts aimed at promoting peace, stability, and sustainable development among member states and around the world, he said.
The two sides exchanged views on the Francophone community’s priorities in the coming years and explored measures to further enhance Việtnam–OIF cooperation. Trung proposed that the OIF strengthen the economic cooperation pillar by supporting expanded partnerships between Việtnam and other member countries in fields such as science and technology, digital transformation, culture, and education. He also expressed Việtnam’s readiness to promote bilateral and trilateral cooperation initiatives with OIF partners.
For her part, Mushikiwabo congratulated Việtnam on its impressive socio-economic development and growing international integration, praising the country’s constructive role and active participation within the Francophone community.
The OIF Secretary-General reaffirmed her commitment to working closely with Việt Nam and other member states to reinforce solidarity and collaboration within the organisation, with the goal of advancing peace, stability, cooperation, and prosperity.
She also pledged to further expand cooperation with Việt Nam, particularly in education and training, sustainable economic development, and trade relations with African countries. Mushikiwabo expressed hope that more Vietnamese officials would serve within the OIF to strengthen institutional cooperation.
Both sides agreed to enhance coordination in preparations for the upcoming Francophonie Summit scheduled to be held in Cambodia in November. They described the summit as an important opportunity to consolidate solidarity within the Francophone community, promote peace and sustainable development, and generate fresh momentum for cooperation in the region.
Mushikiwabo’s visit to Việtnam forms part of her regional tour aimed at preparing for the summit later this year.
