Islamabad, March 9, 2026 – The Europe Today/GNP: Harerimana Fatou, High Commissioner of Rwanda to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, has emphasized the critical role of women in national development and called for stronger global efforts to advance women’s empowerment and gender equality on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

In her message marking the annual observance on March 8, the High Commissioner noted that International Women’s Day provides an important opportunity to reflect on the role of women in society and to promote initiatives aimed at strengthening their participation in all sectors of national life.

Referring to this year’s global theme, “Rights, Justice, Action for all Women and Girls,” she said the theme calls on governments, institutions, and communities worldwide to actively promote women’s rights and take transformative actions that ensure justice and empowerment for women and girls.

“An empowered woman is a cornerstone of a resilient and sustainable nation,” she stated, highlighting the vital contributions women make toward social progress and economic development.

Harerimana Fatou also acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts in promoting gender equality and encouraged women in the country to continue striving for progress and leadership in various fields. She noted that Rwanda and Pakistan have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding on gender equality, which will further strengthen cooperation and partnership between the two countries.

Highlighting Rwanda’s achievements, the High Commissioner said the country takes pride in being a global leader in gender equality, particularly in terms of women’s representation in parliament.

She also reflected on the widely shared belief that behind every strong man stands an even stronger woman who supports the family, contributes to the nation, and plays a crucial role in shaping the future of the world.

Despite these achievements, she pointed out that many challenges still persist globally, including insecurity and conflict, which continue to disproportionately affect women and children through violence, displacement, and other humanitarian crises.

The High Commissioner stressed that addressing these challenges requires strong collaboration and partnerships among communities, nations, and international organizations.

She urged women across the world to continue working collectively to combat violence, promote gender equality in all spheres of life, and support one another in achieving shared goals.

Concluding her message, Harerimana Fatou called on the global community to unite in raising its voice for “Rights, Justice, and Action for all Women and Girls.”
