UK High Commissioner Jane Marriott Visits NDMA Headquarters to Discuss Disaster Preparedness and Climate Resilience

Islamabad, March 9, 2026 – The Europe Today/GNP: Jane Marriott CMG OBE, High Commissioner of the United Kingdom to Pakistan, visited the National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) at the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Headquarters, where she was received by Chairman NDMA, Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik.

The visit focused on gaining an overview of Pakistan’s disaster preparedness architecture, early warning mechanisms, and the technological capabilities of the NEOC for monitoring hazards and coordinating emergency responses across the country.

During the briefing, the High Commissioner was introduced to NDMA’s Disaster Early Warning and Technology Ecosystem, including various digital portals and operational dashboards that function within the NEOC to support timely decision-making and disaster response coordination.

Chairman NDMA Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik highlighted the Authority’s role as the lead national coordinating body for disaster management, emphasizing the importance of preparedness, anticipatory action, and whole-of-government coordination to effectively address evolving disaster risks.

The delegation was also briefed on Lens Pakistan 2026, which outlines seasonal hazard patterns and preparedness priorities for the country. Officials further shared insights into the Global Disaster Lens 2026, providing a broader perspective on emerging global disaster trends and preparedness strategies.

Additionally, the NDMA team presented information on the Global Disaster App and other key national initiatives aimed at strengthening early warning dissemination, risk communication, academic partnerships, and global and regional collaborations, along with the adoption of technology-driven disaster management solutions.

High Commissioner Jane Marriott appreciated the integrated and technology-enabled approach adopted by NDMA to enhance disaster risk reduction and national preparedness. She commended the Authority’s focus on innovation, inter-agency coordination, and evidence-based planning to mitigate the impacts of disasters in the face of growing climate-related risks.

Both sides also exchanged views on enhancing cooperation between Pakistan and the United Kingdom in areas such as disaster risk reduction, climate resilience, and humanitarian coordination.

The visit concluded with the presentation of a souvenir and a group photograph, reaffirming the shared commitment of both countries to strengthening disaster resilience and cooperation in addressing global climate and disaster challenges.
