Turkmenistan, ILO Discuss Expanding Cooperation in Labour and Social Protection

Ashgabat, March 13, 2026 – The Europe Today: An interdepartmental round table with the participation of representatives from the International Labour Organization (ILO) was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on March 12, 2026, focusing on strengthening cooperation in the areas of labour, social protection, and sustainable development.

The event brought together representatives from relevant ministries and departments of Turkmenistan, international organizations, and social partners to discuss key priorities in advancing labour policies and social welfare initiatives.

During the meeting, participants reviewed priority areas of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the ILO, including efforts to improve labour legislation, promote the principles of decent work, and implement joint programmes aimed at strengthening social policy.

In her remarks, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Myahri Byashimova emphasized that Turkmenistan places great importance on cooperation with the ILO and continues to pursue state policies aimed at enhancing social protection, ensuring decent working conditions, and expanding employment opportunities.

She noted that collaboration with the ILO contributes to the adoption of advanced international practices and the strengthening of Turkmenistan’s national labour relations system.

Participants also reviewed the results of joint activities carried out in 2025, including projects promoting decent work principles, and discussed priority areas for cooperation in 2026.

The speakers highlighted Turkmenistan’s consistent efforts to expand international cooperation in the social and labour sectors, emphasizing the importance of sharing experience and further strengthening partnership initiatives with the ILO.
