Baku, March 26, 2026 – The Europe Today: Renowned French traveler André Brugiroux has expressed admiration for the remarkable transformation of Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku, recalling his first visit to the city more than five decades ago.
Speaking to Azerbaijan State News Agency (AZERTAC) on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the NomadMania club, Brugiroux said he was astonished by the city’s development since his initial سفر in 1970.
“I first traveled to Baku in 1970. That was a long time ago. Now, when I look at the city, I almost don’t recognize it. The scent of oil remains the most vivid memory from those years,” he remarked.
The veteran traveler also shared his long-standing desire to explore other regions of Azerbaijan, including Garabagh and Nakhchivan, which he had been unable to visit in the past.
“At that time, I wanted to travel from Armenia to Garabagh and Nakhchivan, but I was not allowed. Now, I finally have the chance to visit both regions, which makes me very happy,” Brugiroux added.
His visit underscores growing international interest in Azerbaijan’s regions and highlights the country’s evolving accessibility for global travelers.
