Turkmenistan, UNFPA Review Cooperation and Outline Priorities for 2026–2030 Programme

Ashgabat, March 28, 2026 – The Europe TodayA meeting held on March 27, 2026, between Turkmenistan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Myahri Byashimova and senior representatives of the United Nations Population Fund reaffirmed the strong partnership between Turkmenistan and the UN agency.

The UN delegation included Florence Bauer, Regional Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, and Chinwe Ogbonna, UNFPA Country Director in Turkmenistan.

During the discussions, both sides highlighted the high level of cooperation achieved in recent years and emphasized continued collaboration under the upcoming UNFPA Country Programme for Turkmenistan for 2026–2030.

Key areas of focus included advancing reproductive and maternal health services, promoting gender equality, and fostering healthy social norms among youth. The participants underscored the importance of these initiatives in supporting sustainable social development and improving overall well-being.

The meeting also reviewed the successful implementation of the National Action Plan on Gender Equality for 2021–2025 and discussed preparations for the next phase of the plan covering the 2026–2030 period.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides expressed mutual interest in further strengthening their partnership and reaffirmed their commitment to implementing joint initiatives under the new Country Programme framework.

The engagement reflects Turkmenistan’s ongoing cooperation with international organizations to enhance social policies and promote inclusive development.
