Jakarta, March 29, 2026 – The Europe Today: Indonesia’s Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana has praised the inclusion of two Indonesian restaurants in the prestigious Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2026 list, describing it as a significant milestone for the country’s growing global culinary reputation.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the minister said the recognition reflects Indonesia’s potential as a world-class gastronomic destination, rich in culture, creativity, and authentic local flavors.

“The inclusion of two Indonesian restaurants in Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2026, along with an award for an Indonesian pastry chef, is a remarkable achievement. It shows that Indonesian gastronomy can compete globally when supported by innovation, quality, and strong storytelling,” she said.

The announcement, made in Hong Kong on March 25, confirmed that August in Jakarta secured 42nd place, while Locavore NXT in Ubud, Bali ranked 44th.

This marks a notable improvement from 2025, when August was ranked 49th and Locavore NXT stood at 92nd position.

Led by Chef Hans Christian, August remains Indonesia’s highest-ranked restaurant. Located in Jakarta’s SCBD area, the restaurant is renowned for its modern interpretation of Indonesian cuisine and refined dining experience.

The event also recognized the exceptional contribution of pastry chef Ardika Dwitama, who was awarded the Asia’s Best Pastry Chef Award 2026, further elevating Indonesia’s standing in the global culinary arena.

Meanwhile, Locavore NXT has earned acclaim as a pioneer of progressive Indonesian gastronomy, emphasizing sustainability and locally sourced ingredients. The restaurant is known for offering an immersive dining concept rooted in eco-conscious and seasonal practices.

Minister Wardhana emphasized that such achievements align with Indonesia’s broader tourism strategy, which prioritizes gastronomy as a key pillar for delivering high-quality and sustainable travel experiences.

Through the Wonderful Indonesia initiative, the government continues to promote culinary heritage, strengthen gastronomic destinations, and expand international exposure for Indonesia’s food industry.
