Tokyo, March 31, 2026 – The Europe Today: Prabowo Subianto on Monday invited Japanese business leaders to expand their investments in Indonesia, underscoring the country’s commitment to an open economy and stronger bilateral economic ties.
Speaking at the Indonesia-Japan Business Forum in Tokyo, President Prabowo highlighted Indonesia’s reliance on trade and international partnerships, reaffirming its long-standing foreign policy of non-alignment.
“Indonesia is an open economy. We rely on trade; we rely on close economic partnerships. That is why our foreign policy has been that of non-alignment,” he said, according to a statement from the Presidential Secretariat.
The president stressed that Indonesia’s openness to global engagement forms the foundation of its economic strategy, enabling it to maintain stable and inclusive relations with countries across different geopolitical blocs.
“Our philosophy is one thousand friends too few, one enemy too many,” Prabowo stated, emphasizing Indonesia’s commitment to expanding partnerships while avoiding conflict.
He noted that this balanced and neutral stance positions Indonesia as a stable and attractive destination for foreign investment amid increasingly complex global dynamics. “Indonesia is in a comfortable position that we do not have any enemies,” he added.
President Prabowo also outlined key reforms being pursued by his administration, including strengthening governance, enhancing transparency, and enforcing the rule of law to improve the business environment.
The government is simultaneously advancing economic transformation through industrialization and increasing the value of natural resources, alongside accelerating development in renewable energy, electric vehicles, manufacturing, and the digital economy.
Highlighting the long-standing partnership between Indonesia and Japan, Prabowo expressed optimism that deeper economic cooperation would yield mutual benefits, urging Japanese companies to seize emerging investment opportunities in Southeast Asia’s largest economy.
