Baku, April 2, 2026 – The Europe Today: Jeyhun Bayramov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, held a telephone conversation on April 1 with Paulo Rangel, Portugal’s Minister of State and Foreign Affairs, to discuss bilateral relations and pressing regional and global issues.
During the call, the two sides reviewed the current state and future prospects of Azerbaijan–Portugal cooperation, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening ties across multiple sectors. Both ministers emphasized the importance of enhancing political dialogue through regular consultations and reciprocal visits.
Minister Paulo Rangel highlighted Portugal’s decision to expand its diplomatic presence in Azerbaijan by opening an embassy, a move welcomed by Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, who expressed appreciation for the initiative as a significant step toward deepening bilateral engagement.
The discussion also explored opportunities to broaden cooperation in key areas, including economy, energy, trade, transport, and tourism. The ministers underlined the importance of leveraging these sectors to unlock the full potential of bilateral relations.
In addition, the two sides exchanged views on collaboration within international organizations, stressing the value of continued mutual support on multilateral platforms.
Addressing global developments, both ministers expressed concern over escalating military tensions in the Middle East and underscored the need for diplomatic solutions to ensure regional stability and security.
