Indonesia Calls for UNSC Meeting Over Attack on UN Peacekeepers in Lebanon

Indonesia

Jakarta, April 5, 2026 – The Europe Today: Indonesia has formally requested an extraordinary meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to address recent attacks on United Nations peacekeepers in Lebanon, officials confirmed on Saturday.

Speaking in Tangerang, Banten, Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono said the request was submitted through Indonesia’s permanent mission in New York shortly after the first incident occurred.

The move follows the deaths of three Indonesian peacekeepers serving under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), prompting a strong diplomatic response from Jakarta.

Sugiono noted that France, which serves as the Security Council’s penholder on Lebanon, has agreed to facilitate the meeting.

Through the proposed UNSC session, Indonesia aims to strongly condemn attacks targeting UN peacekeeping personnel and facilities, while urging the international community to take firm action.

“In essence, we strongly condemn the attack on peacekeepers, in this case UNIFIL. We also demand a thorough investigation,” Sugiono stated.

Indonesia has emphasized the need for a comprehensive probe to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and to hold those responsible accountable.

The government further underscored that ensuring the safety and security of international peacekeeping personnel must remain a top priority for the global community.
