Vietnam Launches All People’s Health Day to Promote Proactive Disease Prevention

Vietnam

Hanoi, April 5, 2026 – The Europe Today: The Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information, Education and Mass Mobilisation, in coordination with the Ministry of Health, on Sunday officially launched All People’s Health Day (April 7) in Hanoi under the theme of proactive disease prevention for a healthy Vietnam.

The event marked the first time the initiative has been implemented in a coordinated manner nationwide, reflecting the country’s growing emphasis on preventive healthcare and public awareness. The launch ceremony featured a wide range of activities, including free health screenings, nutritional consultations, mass exercise performances, artistic programmes, and a public walk to promote healthy living.

Addressing the gathering, Trịnh Văn Quyết, Politburo member and Chairman of the Commission, underscored that proactive disease prevention is not merely a medical measure but a shared societal responsibility and a key requirement for national development in the new era. He stressed the importance of raising awareness across all levels of society, describing prevention as a long-term strategy linked to the responsibility of individuals, families, and the entire political system.

He urged citizens to adopt healthier lifestyles by engaging in regular physical activity, maintaining balanced nutrition, managing risk factors, and undergoing routine health check-ups.

Meanwhile, Đào Hồng Lan highlighted the mounting challenges facing the healthcare sector, including increasingly complex disease patterns, the rising prevalence of non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular illnesses, cancer, hypertension, and diabetes, as well as pressures from an ageing population and the impacts of climate change. She also pointed to concerns related to mental health, improper nutrition, and the continued risks posed by emerging infectious diseases.

She emphasised that disease prevention must be viewed as a collective responsibility, involving not only the health sector but the entire political system and society, with citizens at the centre of these efforts.

Associate Professor Dr Nguyễn Thế Anh, Director of Hữu Nghị Hospital, noted that the designation of April 7 as Vietnam’s Health Day, coinciding with World Health Day, reflects the country’s commitment to aligning with global health priorities.

Providing further details, Nguyễn Hữu Tú, Standing Vice President and General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Young Physicians’ Association, said the event mobilised more than 300 doctors from 19 central-level hospitals. Equipped with modern medical systems, they provided screening, diagnosis, and consultations to thousands of participants.

He added that approximately 8,000 people registered for health check-ups and consultations during the programme, highlighting strong public engagement. The initiative also demonstrated effective coordination between the health sector and broader social forces, including active participation from the business community.

The launch of All People’s Health Day signals Vietnam’s renewed commitment to strengthening preventive healthcare and fostering a culture of health consciousness across society.
