Washington, April 7, 2026 – The Europe Today: Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Iran, stating that the country could be “taken out” within a single night if a deal is not reached by a self-imposed deadline, as tensions escalate over the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking at a press conference at the White House on Monday, President Trump described the current situation as a “critical period,” confirming that Iran has until 8 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday to agree to terms. “The entire country could be taken out in one night, and that night might be tomorrow night,” he warned, while adding that the U.S. response would depend on Iran’s actions.
The U.S. president further claimed that his administration has prepared a comprehensive military plan targeting Iran’s key infrastructure, including bridges and power plants. According to Trump, these assets could be “completely demolished” within hours if military action is authorized. However, he noted that such measures remain conditional and are not the preferred outcome.
Despite the strong rhetoric, Trump indicated that diplomatic efforts are ongoing. He described Iran as an “active, willing participant” in indirect negotiations, adding that talks mediated through intermediary countries are “going well.” He confirmed the involvement of U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and Vice President JD Vance in the discussions.
Earlier, Trump acknowledged reviewing a proposal for a 45-day ceasefire in the ongoing conflict, describing it as a “significant step” but ultimately insufficient. Meanwhile, Iranian authorities have reportedly rejected the proposal, calling instead for a permanent end to hostilities.
According to Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency, Tehran has conveyed its response to a U.S.-proposed framework through Pakistan, reiterating its position against a temporary ceasefire while emphasizing the need for a comprehensive resolution.
The escalating rhetoric follows earlier remarks by Trump, in which he warned that failure to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours could result in severe consequences. The situation continues to evolve as both diplomatic and military options remain under consideration.
