Washington, April 8, 2026 – The Europe Today: Donald Trump has agreed to a two-week suspension of bombing and military operations against Iran, following a request from Shehbaz Sharif, officials said.
According to a statement, the decision came after discussions involving Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Asim Munir, during which Pakistan urged the United States to halt what was described as a planned “devastating attack” scheduled for the same night.
President Trump confirmed that he had ordered the suspension of all bombing and offensive actions against Iran for a period of two weeks, describing the move as part of a broader, mutually agreed ceasefire arrangement.
He stated that the pause in hostilities is contingent upon Iran’s agreement to ensure the immediate, complete, and secure reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route.
The US president further noted that the decision was made after achieving key military objectives, adding that both sides have made significant progress toward a long-term peace framework that could contribute to stability in the Middle East.
Trump revealed that the United States had received a 10-point proposal from Iran, which he described as a workable basis for negotiations. He indicated that consensus has already been reached on most contentious issues between the two countries.
He emphasized that the two-week ceasefire period would allow sufficient time to finalize and formalize a comprehensive agreement aimed at resolving long-standing tensions.
President Trump concluded by calling the development a significant step forward, stating that bringing the prolonged conflict closer to resolution is both an honor and a critical milestone for regional peace.
