Pakistan Reaffirms Full Support for US-Iran Peace Talks, Urges Sustained Ceasefire and Dialogue

Pakistan

Islamabad, April 9, 2026 – The Europe Today: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir on Thursday reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to extending full support to both the United States and Iran in achieving a lasting peace agreement, following the recently announced two-week ceasefire.

The reaffirmation came during a meeting between the two leaders, where they reviewed the progress of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts aimed at facilitating sustainable peace in the region. According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the leadership expressed satisfaction over the de-escalation achieved so far and emphasized the importance of maintaining the ceasefire through continued restraint by all parties.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had announced that Iran, the United States, and their respective allies had agreed to an immediate ceasefire “everywhere, including Lebanon.” He also extended an invitation to delegations from both countries to participate in peace negotiations scheduled to be held in Islamabad on April 10, with the objective of reaching a comprehensive settlement.

US President Donald Trump endorsed the ceasefire shortly before a self-imposed deadline for Tehran to reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. In a statement shared on Truth Social, he described the development as “a big day for world peace” and reaffirmed US support for efforts to stabilize the region, including ensuring safe navigation through the key maritime corridor.

The PMO statement noted that Pakistan’s leadership appreciated the restraint demonstrated by all sides and reiterated the country’s readiness to facilitate dialogue and provide all possible assistance to achieve a peacefully negotiated outcome.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also commended the commitment shown by the parties involved and conveyed his best wishes for the success of ongoing peace efforts. He renewed his invitation to the visiting delegations and assured them of Pakistan’s highest consideration and support during the negotiations.
