Berdimuhamedov Holds High-Level UN Meetings in Austria

Vienna, April 13, 2026 – The Europe Today: National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, held separate high-level meetings with Gerd Müller, Director-General of United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and Rabab Fatima, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, during his official visit to the Austria, according to official Turkmen media reports on Saturday.

During his meeting with UNIDO Director-General Gerd Müller, Berdimuhamedov expressed Turkmenistan’s keen interest in expanding technical cooperation, particularly within the framework of the second phase of the Arkadag “smart” city project. He highlighted the country’s focus on integrating advanced technologies into urban development initiatives.

Müller, in turn, praised the establishment of a medical cluster in Arkadag, describing it as a notable example of the successful application of high technologies and industrial innovation within the healthcare sector. He underscored that the initiative reflects Berdimuhamedov’s extensive experience and long-term contributions to the medical field.

The discussions also covered climate-related priorities, with Berdimuhamedov reaffirming Turkmenistan’s readiness to explore the development and implementation of a comprehensive Cooperation Roadmap with UNIDO for the period 2026–2030. The proposed framework aims to support green industrial transition and enhance climate action efforts.

In a separate meeting with UN Deputy Secretary-General Rabab Fatima, the two sides discussed Turkmenistan’s international initiatives, including those presented at the International Vienna Energy and Climate Forum. Fatima noted that Berdimuhamedov’s proposals are closely aligned with the United Nations’ core objectives, particularly in promoting global peace, stability, and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Berdimuhamedov conveyed his best wishes to the UN Secretary-General and reiterated Turkmenistan’s commitment to strengthening multifaceted cooperation with the United Nations and its specialized agencies.

Additionally, during his visit, the Turkmen leader outlined his country’s position on the evolving situation in the Middle East, warning of potential risks of instability spilling over into the Caspian region and emphasizing the importance of maintaining regional peace and security.
