CRRC Subsidiary Unveils Innovative High-Speed Railway Bogie

Beijing, July 18, 2024, The Europe Today: CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China’s leading train manufacturer CRRC, has introduced a groundbreaking railway bogie designed for high-speed trains capable of running at 400 kilometers per hour.

The new built-in bogie, which is 20 percent lighter than standard externally mounted models, promises significant improvements in efficiency and sustainability. It can reduce a train’s operational energy consumption by 15 percent, decrease wheel-rail wear by approximately 30 percent, and lower maintenance costs for lines and bogies by 15 percent over their lifecycle. This innovation aims to make electrical multiple unit (EMU) trains greener and more energy-efficient.

Railway bogies play a crucial role in train operations, supporting the vehicle’s mass, guiding it along the tracks, and providing cushioning against shocks transmitted from the track during motion.

According to CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co., Ltd., the newly designed bogies, while intended for speeds of 400 kilometers per hour, have demonstrated the capability to operate at maximum speeds of up to 600 kilometers per hour during test bench trials.

“The bogie is one of the key technologies needed for high-speed trains to run fast. It’s like their ‘legs’,” explained Zhou Dianmai, a senior engineer at the company. “Trains equipped with these new bogies can run faster, more steadily, and more quietly.”

This advancement underscores CRRC’s commitment to enhancing the performance and sustainability of high-speed rail transport, paving the way for more efficient and environmentally friendly train travel.
