Vietnam’s Phạm Minh Chính Emphasizes Education and Training for National Development

Hanoi, August 20, 2024, The Europe Today: Vietnam’s Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính underscored the critical importance of education and training in driving rapid and sustainable national development during a national online conference on Monday. The event, organized by the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET), reviewed the 2023-2024 school year and outlined key tasks for the upcoming academic year.

In his address, the Prime Minister called for the effective implementation of the guiding principle: “Students are the center, teachers are the driving force, schools are the support, families are the foundation, and society is the backbone.” He acknowledged the initial successes in the ongoing reforms of general education programs and textbooks, as well as the significant strides made in universalizing preschool, primary, and junior secondary education, along with efforts to eradicate illiteracy.

The Prime Minister also highlighted improvements in higher education and praised the sector for its advancements in digital transformation and information technology application. He expressed his appreciation for the achievements in the education sector while candidly recognizing the ongoing challenges, particularly in curriculum innovation and teacher shortages in certain regions.

As the nation prepares for the 2024-2025 school year, which will see the first high school graduation exam under the new curriculum, PM Chính urged the MoET to lead thorough preparations to ensure the exam’s quality, safety, and fairness. He also emphasized the need to create an environment conducive to investment in education, ensuring equal opportunities between the public and private sectors, and fostering public-private partnerships.

PM Chính further instructed the MoET and relevant ministries to focus on strategic planning for preschool education, education for the disabled, higher education, and educational colleges. He called for adequate land allocation for school construction to meet the growing demands driven by urbanization and population growth.

Quoting late President Hồ Chí Minh’s teachings, PM Chính stressed the importance of a balanced education that combines scientific theory with practical application, instills patriotism and respect for public property, and promotes health and well-being among students.

As the new school year approaches, the Prime Minister extended his best wishes to all education managers, teachers, and students, encouraging them to persevere in their mission to innovate and elevate the Vietnamese education system. He expressed hope that the 2024-2025 school year would be a successful one, contributing to the nation’s prosperity and aligning with the aspirations of late President Hồ Chí Minh.

The Prime Minister concluded by wishing teachers good health and happiness, and students the fulfillment of their dreams and ambitions in building a stronger and more prosperous Vietnam.
