Putrajaya, September 04, 2024, The Europe Today: Malaysia has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing artificial intelligence (AI) technology through the National Artificial Intelligence Roadmap 2021-2025 and the implementation of the Digital Education Policy (DPD) during the 2024 Digital Learning Week in Paris.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, who also serves as the president of the Malaysian National Commission for UNESCO (MNCU), emphasized the need to explore the potential of AI in education while ensuring that human values remain central.
In a statement released on Wednesday (Sept 4), Fadhlina highlighted Malaysia’s active efforts in educational reforms, including the 2027 School Curriculum and the new education development plan. Leading the Malaysian delegation at the event, which ran from Sept 2 to 4, she engaged in a roundtable discussion with international education leaders.
Fadhlina also held a meeting with UNESCO’s Deputy Director-General, Xing Qu, where they discussed key issues such as education for all, the empowerment of science and technology, and the ethical implications of AI.
Malaysia expressed its intention to join the UNESCO Executive Board for the term 2025-2029, reflecting the nation’s dedication and reputation as an active member in driving regional and global initiatives.
Xing Qu extended his appreciation to Malaysia for its continuous commitment to UNESCO’s mission, acknowledging the country’s significant contributions to strengthening the organization’s agenda.
