Li Qiang to Attend ASEAN Summits and Pay Official Visits to Laos and Vietnam

Beijing, October 08, 2024 – The Europe Today: Chinese Premier Li Qiang is set to attend the 27th China-ASEAN Summit, the 27th ASEAN Plus Three (APT) Summit, and the 19th East Asia Summit, scheduled to take place in Vientiane, Laos, from October 9 to 12, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced on Tuesday. Premier Li’s participation in these key regional summits comes at the invitation of Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith, who currently chairs the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

The summits will focus on enhancing regional cooperation, economic integration, and stability amid evolving global challenges. As a strategic partner of ASEAN, China plays a pivotal role in promoting multilateral ties, trade, and development initiatives across the region. Premier Li’s attendance reflects China’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with Southeast Asia and its broader engagement with East Asia.

In addition to his participation in the summits, Premier Li will also embark on official visits to Laos and Vietnam. Following his stay in Laos, Premier Li will visit Vietnam from October 12 to 14 at the invitation of Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. These visits aim to deepen bilateral relations and expand cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, infrastructure development, and people-to-people exchanges.

The back-to-back official visits highlight China’s commitment to enhancing its strategic partnerships with Laos and Vietnam, further promoting regional peace, stability, and prosperity.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning emphasized that Premier Li’s attendance at the summits and official visits will foster stronger ties and demonstrate China’s support for ASEAN’s centrality in regional affairs.
