Hanoi, October 14, 2024 – The Europe Today: Premier Li Qiang of China, accompanied by a high-ranking delegation, laid a wreath at the mausoleum of President Hồ Chí Minh in Hanoi on Sunday. This gesture was part of Li’s three-day official visit to Vietnam, marking a significant moment in the bilateral relations between the two countries.
Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bùi Thanh Sơn joined the delegation in honoring the late leader, recognizing Hồ Chí Minh as a hero of national liberation and a prominent cultural figure in Vietnam.
This visit is noteworthy as it is Li’s first official trip to Vietnam in his new role and the first by a Chinese Premier in the past 11 years. It underscores the commitment of both the Chinese Party and State, as well as Premier Li himself, to strengthening bilateral relations.
The timing of the visit coincides with preparations for the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and China, celebrated on January 18, 2025. It follows a series of high-profile state visits, including General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Xi Jinping’s trip to Vietnam in December and General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Tô Lâm’s visit to China in August. Additionally, Vietnamese Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính’s participation in the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in China in June highlights ongoing dialogue between the nations.
This visit continues the tradition of high-level exchanges between the two parties and countries, carrying significant importance in further strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership. It aims to promote the development of a Vietnam-China community with a shared future, aligning with the strategic objectives set forth in the “six major goals.”
