Islamabad, October 15, 2024 – The Europe Today: In a significant meeting today, President Asif Ali Zardari and visiting Chinese Premier Li Qiang reaffirmed their commitment to further deepen strategic cooperation between Pakistan and China across key areas, including the economy, investment, and regional connectivity. The discussions took place in Islamabad as both nations emphasized the importance of expediting the implementation of projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Welcoming the Chinese delegation, President Zardari emphasized that Pakistan’s friendship with China, its all-weather partner, remains a cornerstone of the country’s foreign policy. He highlighted the necessity of exploring new avenues for cooperation, stressing that there is ample room to expand bilateral relations. The President underscored the need to enhance connectivity through robust road networks to strengthen trade and foster people-to-people linkages. He encouraged Chinese companies to invest in the Pakistan Stock Exchange, urging them to seize the investment opportunities available in Pakistan.
President Zardari stated that the time is ripe to fully leverage China’s economic growth, particularly through CPEC and the Gwadar Port. He announced his upcoming visit to China in November, expressing eagerness to reconnect with old friends and engage in discussions aimed at further strengthening bilateral ties. Reflecting on his previous visits to China during his earlier tenure, he noted Pakistan’s enduring support from China on critical issues of mutual concern.
In a poignant moment, President Zardari extended heartfelt condolences over the tragic loss of two Chinese nationals in a recent terrorist attack. He expressed that this heart-breaking incident had deeply grieved the entire nation and emphasized that enemies of the Pakistan-China friendship are attempting to undermine bilateral relations. He reassured Premier Li that Pakistan remains committed to tracking down the perpetrators and ensuring they face exemplary punishment, while also taking all necessary measures to enhance the security of Chinese nationals working in the country.
The President further appreciated China’s support regarding the Jammu and Kashmir dispute and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to support China on all its core issues, including the “One China” policy, Taiwan, Tibet, Hong Kong, Xinjiang, and the South China Sea.
Premier Li Qiang, in turn, reaffirmed that Pakistan and China are good brothers, neighbors, partners, and friends. He emphasized that strategic cooperation between the two nations would continue to deepen under the leadership of President Xi Jinping. Acknowledging President Zardari’s contributions to promoting stronger Pakistan-China relations, Premier Li expressed confidence that the partnership would continue to thrive despite global challenges.
The Chinese Premier underscored the need to accelerate progress on CPEC development projects and reiterated China’s support for its companies to invest in Pakistan. He expressed optimism about the future of Pakistan-China relations, indicating that the partnership would only grow stronger.
