Samarkand Day Celebrated with Cultural Programs and Festivities

Samarkand, October 19, 2024 — The Europe Today: Samarkand Day was celebrated on October 18, with festivities led by representatives of the regional and city hokimiyat, including Samarkand region’s Hokim E.Turdimov. In honor of the occasion, public figures and officials visited the Amir Temur Mausoleum, where flowers were laid at the monument of the legendary commander. The monument, erected in 1996 to commemorate the 660th anniversary of Amir Temur’s birth, marks the inauguration of Samarkand Day, celebrated annually on this date.

The main festive events took place in the Central Park of Culture and Recreation named after Alisher Navoi and along the street that bears his name. Various cultural programs and exhibitions were showcased by the city’s higher education institutions, preschool education organizations, schools, mahallas, enterprises, and other departments. The celebrations also featured poetry and drawing contests focused on Samarkand’s rich history and beauty, as well as sports competitions, adding to the festive atmosphere.

Samarkand Day continues to serve as an important occasion to celebrate the city’s cultural heritage and pay tribute to its historical significance.
