Türkiye and AIIB Sign Landmark $5 Billion Cooperation Deal

Ankara, February 17, 2025 – The Europe Today: Türkiye’s Treasury and Finance Ministry has signed a major agreement with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) to enhance cooperation in financing public projects.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed on Monday, formalizes AIIB’s commitment to provide approximately $5 billion in funding for public projects in Türkiye over the next three years (2025-2027). This agreement marks the first multi-year cooperation framework between Türkiye and AIIB, the finance ministry stated.

The funding will be directed towards key sectors such as energy, transportation, the real sector, export financing, and water management, all with a focus on sustainable and green development. In addition, AIIB plans to allocate another $5 billion for private-sector projects in the future, further diversifying financial resources for businesses and supporting infrastructure projects across Türkiye.

The finance ministry emphasized that Türkiye’s strong partnerships with international development banks position the country as a preferred partner for global development initiatives. By the end of 2024, Türkiye’s active portfolio with these banks had reached $35 billion, underscoring international confidence in the country’s economic strategy.

This landmark agreement reinforces Türkiye’s commitment to sustainable growth and international financial collaboration, paving the way for enhanced economic and infrastructure development.
