Brussels, July 3, 2025 – The Europe Today: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with European Council President Antonio Costa in Brussels on Wednesday, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to multilateralism and expressing readiness to strengthen bilateral cooperation in addressing global challenges.
President Costa emphasized the European Union’s dedication to multilateral principles and its willingness to work with China on the basis of mutual respect, constructive dialogue, and shared responsibility. He expressed hope for enhanced EU-China relations, noting that both sides can transcend differences and foster greater understanding to jointly tackle pressing international issues.
Underscoring the EU’s consistent adherence to the one-China policy, Costa voiced the Union’s support for the full success of the upcoming EU-China leaders’ meeting, signaling the bloc’s interest in reinforcing high-level dialogue and strategic engagement with Beijing.
Foreign Minister Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, described Europe as a vital pillar in the evolving multipolar world. He reiterated China’s longstanding support for European integration and welcomed the EU’s efforts to bolster its strategic autonomy and expand its global role.
“China is willing to enhance communication and coordination with the EU to ensure a fruitful China-EU leaders’ meeting,” Wang stated. “The more serious and complex the international situation becomes, the more China and the EU must strengthen solidarity and act as stabilizing forces in an increasingly turbulent world.”
He further stressed the importance of mutual respect for core interests, fostering trust, and promoting each other’s development and success.
During the meeting, the two sides also exchanged views on the ongoing Ukraine crisis, reaffirming their shared interest in pursuing peace and stability through diplomatic means.
The meeting in Brussels is seen as a significant step toward reinforcing China-EU ties amid evolving geopolitical dynamics.
