Brasília, July 08, 2025 – The Europe Today: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Murat Nurtleu, continued his active engagement at the 17th BRICS Summit by delivering remarks during the high-level session titled “Environment, COP30, Global Health,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan reported.
During the session, participating leaders and ministers addressed a broad spectrum of global challenges, including environmental sustainability, preparations for the upcoming COP30 under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and the strengthening of international health systems.
In his speech, Minister Nurtleu emphasized Kazakhstan’s commitment to preserving ecosystems, protecting forests, restoring the Aral Sea, and mitigating glacier melt in Central Asia. He stressed the urgency of shifting from reactive responses to proactive prevention of climate threats, calling for the development of early warning systems, better disaster preparedness, and enhanced multilateral coordination.
As part of Kazakhstan’s contribution to global climate action, the Minister proposed leveraging the country’s national satellite technologies to support climate monitoring and disaster forecasting efforts across the region and beyond.
Minister Nurtleu also addressed global health issues, highlighting Kazakhstan’s historical role in the development of primary healthcare through the 1978 Almaty Declaration, a landmark in international public health. He urged member states to join the Global Coalition for the Development of Primary Health Care, reaffirming Kazakhstan’s support for building resilient health systems.
Underscoring the strength of shared global interests, Minister Nurtleu stated:
“Our countries are rich in resources, expertise and potential. But most of all – we are rich in shared interest. Kazakhstan stands ready to do more with BRICS – for people and for our planet. Let us act together – and act early.”
He also announced that Kazakhstan will convene a Regional Ecological Summit in 2026, in partnership with the United Nations, extending an invitation to all BRICS members to participate.
The Kazakh Foreign Minister expressed gratitude to Brazil, the host of the 17th BRICS Summit, for its warm hospitality, excellent organization, and the constructive environment that fostered open dialogue among the Global South nations.
On the sidelines of the summit, Minister Nurtleu held a bilateral meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. The two ministers explored ways to strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation, emphasizing strategic coordination on issues of mutual interest.
Kazakhstan reaffirmed its full support for the goals and objectives of the BRICS Summit, underlining its readiness to contribute actively to shared global challenges through inclusive dialogue and practical cooperation.
