Erdogan Welcomes US-Russia Talks in Alaska as ‘New Momentum’ for Ukraine Peace Efforts

Erdogan

Ankara, August 17, 2025 – The Europe Today: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday hailed the talks between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, saying they had given “new momentum” to efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war.

“The meetings held in Alaska between US President Donald Trump and Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin have provided new momentum to the search for an end to the Russia-Ukraine war,” Erdogan wrote in a statement on his social media account.

The Turkish leader expressed hope that the process, with the participation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, would pave the way for lasting peace. “We welcome the Alaska Summit and hope that this new process, with the participation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, will lay the foundation for lasting peace. Türkiye stands ready to make every contribution toward the establishment of peace,” he added.

Türkiye has long positioned itself as a mediator in the conflict, maintaining dialogue with both Moscow and Kyiv while supporting diplomatic initiatives to bring an end to the hostilities.
