Putrajaya, September 10, 2025 – The Europe Today: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the development of high-skilled talent in advanced technology fields will be a central priority in the upcoming Budget 2026, which is scheduled to be tabled in Parliament on October 10.
Speaking after officiating the International Conference on Social Sciences and Humanities 2025 on Wednesday (September 10), Anwar said that sectors such as artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductors will receive special focus to meet the growing demands of high-tech industries.
“We have to review our achievements and identify what is needed to accelerate and strengthen training programmes and the overall well-being of our youth, so they can thrive and contribute to the nation’s progress,” he stated.
Anwar underscored that these efforts are crucial in supporting major international investments, including Infineon Technologies’ operations in Kulim, Kedah. He stressed that providing industries with a skilled workforce is essential to sustaining such investments.
“That is why I am increasing allocations to meet the needs. This is certainly one of our national budget priorities,” he affirmed, while also commending universities and the Ministry of Higher Education for spearheading the creation of AI faculties.
The Prime Minister noted that these initiatives have helped dismantle bureaucratic obstacles that previously hindered the approval of new academic programmes.
He further emphasized the need to balance technological advancement with strong cultural and ethical foundations. “It is important to strengthen our mindset and cultural values, including ethics, morals, history and religious beliefs, even as we pursue advances in technology,” Anwar said.
