Kuala Lumpur, October 22, 2025 — The Europe Today: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reaffirmed ASEAN’s commitment to neutrality, urging the regional bloc to engage with all global powers without taking sides.

Speaking at the PNB Knowledge Forum, Anwar highlighted Malaysia’s balanced foreign policy, emphasizing strong partnerships with both the United States and China. “Our partnership with the United States through ASEAN remains robust. We continue to cooperate closely on economic and security matters while ensuring ASEAN stays united and independent in its decisions,” he said.

The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of ASEAN’s relationship with China, advocating for inclusive dialogue among diverse international leaders. Malaysia is set to host leaders from Brazil, South Africa, and Canada for the first time, signaling a more inclusive ASEAN that strengthens connections between Asia and the wider world.

As Malaysia prepares to host the 47th ASEAN Summit from October 26 to 28, Anwar’s remarks underscore the nation’s dedication to fostering an ASEAN that remains united and independent in its decision-making. The summit is expected to address critical issues, including economic cooperation, regional security, and sustainable development, with participation from leaders across Asia, Europe, and beyond.
