Tesla Temporarily Halts Production at Gigafactory Berlin Due to Component Shortage Linked to Red Sea Crisis

Berlin, January 11, 2024, The Europe Today: Electric car manufacturer Tesla has announced a temporary suspension of most vehicle production at its Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg near the German capital for a two-week period, from January 29 to February 11.

The company cites a lack of components as the reason for this interruption, with a few sub-areas being exceptions. Tesla attributes the component shortage to disruptions in shipping routes caused by the crisis in the Red Sea, where Houthis have targeted ships in solidarity with the Palestinian group Hamas, currently engaged in conflict with Israel in Gaza.

The armed conflicts in the Red Sea have led to shifts in transportation routes between Europe and Asia via the Cape of Good Hope, impacting production in Grünheide, as explained by Tesla.
