New York, March 06, 2024, The Europe Today: Emma Hayes, the highly regarded coach currently leading Women’s Super League leaders Chelsea, is set to make her coaching debut with the U.S. women’s teams in two friendlies against South Korea, announced U.S. Soccer on Tuesday.
Hayes, who will depart from Chelsea at the end of the season in May, will join the U.S. women’s coaching staff for the June friendlies. Interim U.S. head coach Twila Kilgore expressed excitement about having Emma Hayes on board, stating, “It will be exciting for everyone to have Emma on board for the June games.” Kilgore will also transition to the role of assistant coach on Hayes’ staff.
The U.S. women’s team is scheduled to face South Korea in Commerce City, Colorado, on June 1, followed by another encounter in St. Paul, Minnesota, three days later. These friendlies are integral to the team’s preparations for the upcoming Paris Olympics, with two additional matches slated for July.
“We need as many quality games as we can get heading into the Olympics, and Korea will provide good tests,” Kilgore commented. She emphasized the significance of the matches in Colorado and Minnesota, noting that they are the final international fixtures before the Olympic team selection, adding an extra layer of intensity to the games.
Emma Hayes’ coaching expertise and experience in elite women’s football are expected to bring a fresh perspective to the U.S. women’s team as they gear up for the highly anticipated friendlies and, ultimately, the Paris Olympics. The announcement marks a significant development for U.S. women’s soccer, and fans will be eagerly anticipating the impact of Hayes’ coaching debut on the team’s performance.
