Chinese Envoy Urges Diplomatic Solutions to End War in Ukraine

New York, March 22, 2024, The Europe Today: In an address to the United Nations Security Council on Friday, Chinese Deputy Permanent Representative Geng Shuang called upon all involved parties to prioritize diplomatic efforts aimed at halting the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Addressing the Security Council briefing on weapon supplies to Ukraine, Geng reiterated China’s stance on the crisis, urging responsible action and the allocation of resources towards achieving a ceasefire and bringing an end to the war.

Geng highlighted the Security Council’s repeated consideration of the issue of arms supplies to Ukraine and noted the multiple briefings provided by the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs. He emphasized the clear positions of all parties involved and cautioned against the continued flow of weapons to the battlefield.

“The continued flow of weapons to the battlefield will only exacerbate the cruelty, danger, and unpredictability of war,” stated Geng. He underscored the detrimental impact of such actions, warning that they could further escalate the crisis and hinder prospects for peace.

Reaffirming China’s consistent and clear position on the Ukraine issue, Geng emphasized the country’s commitment to promoting peace talks through an objective and impartial approach.

“China supports the holding of an international peace conference recognized by both Russia and Ukraine, with equal participation of all parties,” declared Geng. He expressed China’s readiness to engage in dialogue and exchanges with all concerned parties and reiterated the country’s dedication to playing a constructive role in facilitating a political resolution to the crisis.

Geng’s address underscores the importance of diplomatic initiatives and dialogue in addressing the complex challenges posed by the conflict in Ukraine, reaffirming China’s commitment to contributing to a peaceful and sustainable resolution.
