Beijing, June 15, 2024, The Europe Today: China-Europe freight train services achieved their highest-ever monthly transport volume in May, according to the China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. (China Railway). This milestone underscores the robust growth and increasing importance of rail freight in international trade between China and Europe.
In May, the number of China-Europe freight train trips surged by 14 percent year-on-year, reaching a total of 1,724 journeys. The cargo transported amounted to approximately 186,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU), marking a 13 percent increase from the same period last year. These figures represent the highest monthly transport volume ever recorded in the history of the service.
China Railway attributed this success to its ongoing efforts since the beginning of the year to accelerate the development of a modern railway logistics system. The company has meticulously organized cargo transportation and continuously enhanced the freight transport capacity and service quality of the railway network.
Additionally, the company reported that China’s railways transported 337 million tonnes of goods in May, a 2.8 percent increase year-on-year. This overall growth in rail freight highlights the effectiveness of China’s strategic investments in its railway infrastructure and logistics capabilities.
The record-breaking performance in May reflects the increasing demand for efficient, reliable, and environmentally friendly transportation options between China and Europe. As global trade dynamics evolve, the China-Europe freight train service continues to play a pivotal role in facilitating international commerce and strengthening economic ties across continents.
